I’m a reporter at the Gannett-owned Battle Creek Enquirer in southcentral Michigan, where I cover mostly local government and economic development.
I got my first assignment when I was 14. My high school, which opened the same year I started ninth grade, was starting up its student newspaper. I volunteered to be the sports editor.
I’ve been hooked since.
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Diego State University in 2012 and moved to Michigan a month later. While I try to call dibs on every animal story that comes our way, I have covered everything from farmers to downtown redevelopment, and from the local breakfast giant Kellogg Co. to the thriving sense of volunteerism that moves this city.
I previously interned at The San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego. I was also the news editor at the Southwestern College Sun and a web contributor for San Diego State’s student newspaper, The Daily Aztec.
Aside from journalism, I also enjoy politics, classic rock, traveling, baseball and relaxing on the couch with my son/pug, Maximus. Oh, and I’m proudly left-handed.
