I’m a reporter at the Gannett-owned Battle Creek Enquirer in southcentral Michigan, where I cover mostly local government and other watchdog issues.
My first assignment was when I was 14, helping launch my newly built high school’s student newspaper. I volunteered to be the sports editor, eventually found a passion in political reporting and I’ve been hooked since.
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from San Diego State University in 2012 and moved to Michigan a month later. While I try to call dibs on every animal story that comes our way, I have covered everything from farmers to downtown redevelopment, from the local breakfast giant Kellogg Co. to the thriving sense of volunteerism that moves this city.
Most recently, I’ve covered the city of Battle Creek, which was reeling from leadership shakeups and tensions among elected officials. I’m also reporting on Summit Pointe, the county’s independent mental health agency which recently fired its long-time CEO after a months-long investigation.
I previously interned at The San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego. I was also the news editor at the Southwestern College Sun and a web contributor for San Diego State’s student newspaper, The Daily Aztec.
Aside from journalism, I also enjoy traveling, baseball and spending some serious time on the couch with my pug, Maximus.
